The Snow Storm and Global Warming

I am not nearly smart enough to know if there really is such a thing as global warming. I know that some use the threat of global warming for all sorts of agendas. Still, there is nothing I hate worse than claims that global warming is bunk because there happens to frigid weather somewhere. Just like global warming alarmists have an agenda, so too are those that claim this.

The 'Gore Effect' strikes again: this time Mother Nature will sabotage NASA's token crackpot James Hansen.

Hansen, of course, is the same Climatard (I hear that's the term they prefer) who calls for "civil disobedience" to protest the use of coal.

Never mind that more than half of America's electricity is produced by coal. Never mind the numbing March temperatures. Never mind the unseasonable snow.

We've got faux science to promote!

Of course, it should be noted that proponents of global warming are also using this storm to their ideological benefit.

Brace yourselves now - this may be a case of politicians twisting the facts. There is some evidence that climate change could in fact make such massive snowstorms more common, even as the world continues to warm.

As the meteorologist Jeff Masters points out in his excellent blog at Weather Underground, the two major storms that hit Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., this winter - in December and during the first weekend of February - are already among the 10 heaviest snowfalls those cities have ever recorded. The chance of that happening in the same winter is incredibly unlikely.

(it should be noted that things are so unusally cold in Vancouver that they're flying snow in for some Olympic events)

The reality is that both sides are full of it. A snowstorm in D.C. doesn't prove global warming one way or another. This doesn't prove the science one way or another. Global warming proponents claim that the earth will increase by less than one degree over years. That wouldn't preclude a snow storm in D.C. this year. So, let's leave the propaganda and grandstanding out of this.
