We've just witnessed a truly surreal press conference. Governor Mark Sanford just admitted that he travelled to Argentina to meet with his lover of about a year. He's resigned as Chairman of the GOP Governors Association. Of course, this revelation is flat on the heels of another revelation by Senator Ensign.
Going into the press conference, we were all perplexed and disappointed that the Governor left without leaving a clear chain of command. We were all further disappointed that he appeared to be misleading as to where he was. No one expected this.
There was speculation that this episode would end his chances to run for President. I think I can say that this is no longer the case. At this point, the Governor may or may not stay as Governor, and that appears to be slipping away.
The RNC has announced that Alabama Governor, Hayley Barbour, has taken over at the RGA.

Ha, Fox News had the following caption on Sanford's press conference:
"SC GOV MARK SANFORD(D) HOLDS NEWS CONF ON HIS WEEKEND DISAPPEARANCE"
The party of morals and values.
