Brown Quits, Cameron the PM

The news is breaking.

Gordon Brown announced Tuesday he is resigning effective immediately as Britain's prime minister, opening the path for the conservative leader to take up residence in 10 Downing Street.

An official departure requires the prime minister to submit his resignation in person to Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, turning over the proverbial keys to the castle. The queen arrived at the palace on Tuesday afternoon.

"I have informed the queen's private secretary that it's my intention to tender my resignation to the queen," Brown told reporters in a statement to the press before he got into a car to travel to the queen.

Now if you think things are screwy domestically, try and govern in Britain. The Conservatives won the election last week however they really didn't win. They only won when they reached out better to the Liberal Democrats than did Brown's Labour Party. Meanwhile, the only party that really won was the Liberal Democrats which were going to be part of the ruling coalition no matter what.
