A Very Revealing WAPO Poll on Health Care Reform

The Washington Post recently did a poll in conjunction with ABC about health care and its results are revealing. While a majority of Americans want health care reform, it's the concerns of Americans that reveal just where current health care ideas are headed. About 80% of Americans were concerned that health care reform would increase government expenses, increase the deficit, decrease the quality of their own health care, decrease choice in health care.

Let's think about that for a minute. What if we had health care reform and it cost more, lead to higher deficits, reduced the quality of health care, and reduced choice? That would a total and unmitigated disaster. Yet, about four in five Americans are worried that health care reform would lead to all of this.

Beyond this, this poll, along with most, find that Americans are overwhelmingly happy with their own health insurance. In the WAPO poll, just over 80% of respondents found that individuals were happy with their own health insurance.

So, the government wants to impose a system that about four in five people think will cost too much, leading to massive new deficits, will limit health care choices, and decrease the quality of their own health care. It wants to impose this on a system that most people are happy with personally. That, in a nutshell, is why health care reform is going to fail, and why it's such a bad idea.
