I have lost track of several things regarding the crisis in Georgia. First, I have lost track of the number of times there has been a so called truce or cease fire only to find out the Russian troops were moving forward. I have lost track of the number of times one pundit or another has proclaimed that Russia was about to pull back. I have lost track of how many times some pundit or another has proclaimed that one thing or another said behind closed doors by the Bush administration will imminently, or even already had, moved Putin back.
None of this is true. Russian troops have nearly free reign inside Georgia. Nicholas Sarkozy went from the French version of Margaret Thatcher into Neville Chamberlain in about a week. The bottom line is that the world has sat by nearly impotent while Russia has invaded and controlled its neighbor in a brazen act of war.
We can all pretend as though this will merely go away. Some will say that Putin will eventually remove his troops. Some will say that Georgia is not worth going to war with. None of those folks will have a hint of truth to their statements. Vladimir Putin will do what he wants, when he wants, until someone stands up to him.
So far, neither President Bush, Condi Rice, or the rest of the world have shown anything near the will necessary to confront this evil tyrant. The problem is that Vladimir Putin won't stop just because the rest of the world chooses not to realize he is a threat. We are on the brink of war. The world has no choice. Vladimir Putin is hell bent on world domination. We have witnessed evil tyrants like him before and nearly every time we have wound up going to war with them.
The only question for the world community is whether or not we choose to confront him now, or if we allow him to gain more strength by taking over Georgia, Ukraine, and any other weaker nation before we confront him. The world needs to come to the realization that non confrontation is no longer an option. The world must also realize that confrontation doesn't mean strongly worded statements. It doesn't necessarily mean all out war, but it certainly allows for that option.

ReplyDeleteCNN.com did not publish my comment, lets see what happens here. He-he.
ReplyDeleteHere is the question: Who was the main street of Tbilisi (capital of Rep of Georgia, not the great State I live in) was named after? Who was the road connecting the biggest airport in that country to their capital named after? Every high level official of that country has his picture in their office. Who is he? He is the greatest U.S. President of all times - George W. Bush.
Republic of Georgia military spending increased 30 times(!) over the past 5 years and became the largest in the world per capita, over 1 billion with a "B" US Dollar of yours and my tax money went in there as weapon systems and such. Were they preparing for "restoring constitutional order in another nation of South Ossetia"? All that weaponry to be taken apart by the Russians last week. Great investment! All of the media is completely biased on it. I did not expect every single one of them to be that way, but when you remember how they "prepared" us for the Iraqi war, its all comes together. Americans were the only people on the planet thinking that war was about something other than oil :(
First of all, Alec, these comments should be directed to this post

because that is where I address all such arguments.
Second of all, Sout Ossetia is not its own country. That is very important because you FALSELY make it seem as though Georgia aggressively attacked another nation. It didn't. South Ossetia is a province in Georgia that refuses to recognize that it is a part of Georgia. That doesn't actually make it its own country.
Third of all, the Georgian military attacked paramilitary fighting outside of any legitimate flag within South Ossetia. Despite the Russian propaganda, it is pure nonsense to claim that Georgia went on some genocidal killing spree.

Third of all, of course this is all about oil. Every move that Vladimir Putin makes has something to do with oil. You are in the ball park however you assign the nefarious intentions to the wrong side.
