The Second Stimulus?

Don't call it a second stimulus, but Democrats are ready to spend some more money.

Democrats hope to pass jobs legislation through the House before lawmakers leave for Christmas on Dec. 18, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Tuesday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has asked key committee chairmen for ideas on job creation, which Hoyer (D-Md.) said could be wrapped into one bill.

“It's my hope we will adjourn by Dec. 18,” Hoyer said in his weekly session with reporters. “I would certainly hope we would move something on jobs before that.”

The mixed messages here are just enormous. Earlier in the week, the president warned that our growing deficit will lead to a double dip recession. How does Congress respond? The Senate is moving forward with an $849 billion health care bill. Now, the House wants to spend about $200 billion in "job creation".

Remember, we spent $787 billion earlier in the year to create jobs. If we didn't create jobs spending $787 billion, what will an extra $200 billion do? More than that, why weren't the projects in this bill put into the first bill?

This would all be funny if it weren't hundreds of billions of dollars we were talking about. This is keystone cops legislating. We pass a $787 billion stimulus that was supposed to create jobs. Now, the House wants to spend $200 billion to create jobs. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Were you even paying attention during the first stimulus? They were taken out to appease the conservatives. That's why a Democratic spending bill was almost 50% tax cuts.

  2. There were no tax cuts but tax credits. There is a difference. If it was meant to appease conservatives, they didn't do much of a job.

None of what you say still explains why the Democrats want to spend all this money now.
